Split a large spreadsheet into smaller files
Many systems limit uploads to a few thousand rows, and huge spreadsheets are slow to share. This spreadsheet splitter breaks a big Excel or CSV file into smaller ones: every N rows (for example 1,000 contacts per file), into equal parts, or one file per value in a column, such as one file per region, store, teacher or salesperson. The heading row is repeated at the top of every file.
How to split a spreadsheet
- Drop the file onto the box. If it has several sheets, choose one.
- Choose a way to split: Every few rows (type how many), Into equal parts (type how many files), or By a column's values (pick the column).
- Choose the format. One Excel file, many sheets keeps everything in one workbook with a tab for each part.
- Click Split and download. The files come together in a ZIP.
Questions
Is the heading row copied into each file?
Yes, as long as “First row is headings” is ticked.
How are files named when splitting by a column?
Each file is named after its value, for example “Sales - North.xlsx”. Empty cells go into a file called “(blank)”.
