Sort any list alphabetically or by number

This line sorter puts any list in order: alphabetical A to Z or Z to A, numerical (smallest or largest first), by length, reversed, or randomly shuffled. It uses natural sorting, so “Track 2” comes before “Track 10”, just as you'd expect, and accented letters sort correctly.

Use it to alphabetize names, order prices, tidy keyword lists, or shuffle a list to pick a random winner or playlist order. You can also remove duplicates and number the lines in the same step.

How to sort lines

  1. Paste your list, one item per line.
  2. Pick an order. The sorted list appears on the right at once.
  3. Optional: remove duplicates or number the lines.
  4. Click Copy result.

Questions

How does sorting by number work?

Each line is sorted by the first number in it, so “Room 3”, “Room 12” and “Room 100” come out in that order. Lines without a number go last.

Can I alphabetize a list from Excel?

Yes. Copy a column, paste it here, sort, then copy the result back into your sheet.

Is the shuffle really random?

Yes. It uses a fair shuffle, so every order is equally likely. Click “Shuffle again” for a new order.
