Convert audio to MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG

This free audio converter changes sound files from one format to another, many at once. Convert WAV to MP3 to save space, M4A to MP3 so older players and cars can play it, FLAC to MP3 for your phone, or MP3 to WAV for editing software. It also pulls the sound out of video files.

    Which format should I choose?

    • MP3: plays on every device, car and app. 192 kbps is a great balance.
    • WAV: uncompressed, best for editing and burning CDs. About 10 MB per minute.
    • M4A (AAC): Apple's favorite; sounds slightly better than MP3 at the same size.
    • OGG (Opus): the smallest files for the quality, ideal for voice and the web.

    Questions

Does converting MP3 to WAV improve the quality?

No. Converting can't bring back detail that MP3 removed, but WAV is easier for editing programs to work with.

Why can't I save as M4A or OGG?

Those formats use your browser's built-in encoders. They work in Chrome and Edge; if your browser lacks one, choose MP3 or WAV.
